I installed two applications, Gnumeric (a spreadsheet application) and Firefox. In either case I searched for the package name based on the name of the program, and picked the one that was what I needed to install. Granted, it does take a bit of intuition to get the right package, but most of the time it is pretty easy to figure out. As for the installation itself? I just clicked a button and a few minutes later, the icon for the application appeared on the dock.<br /><br />@Lakota: I haven't used Arch Linux yet.
